My Scope of Knowledge and What It Means for You

As you get to know me, I thought it would be very important for me to explain how deep my knowledge is.  I want to discuss horses, psychology, and yoga separately as they all combine into the mission of Callebaut Yoga.

Let’s start with horses.  I have been around horses for over a decade and was given my first horse almost 6 years ago in 2019.  I was trained in the hunter/jumper world and competed on the A circuit.  My knowledge of caring for horses grew over the years, but saw an exponential change when Beau was retired and consequently taken out of a training program.  This meant I became the “professional” in regards to his health, rehab, training, and everything else that pertained to him.  In no way do I want to portray myself as the all knowing horse woman because I have the help of past trainers, vets, equine body workers, and equine communicators.  That said, I have worked really hard to become a well rounded horsewoman.  I have trained with many individuals, gone to clinics, and moved barns when I felt it was time for a change.  I have asked vets, and equine bodyworkers what I can do between their visits to help with Beau’s arthritis.  I have paid for bodywork education as well.  My philosophy as a horse owner is to listen, respect, and advocate for the horse you’re working with and let me tell you anyone can do this.  You don’t need a PhD or certificate to learn to read your horse's body language.  I don’t want to use this site to coach on horse health or activities beyond little ideas of things to grow a bond, such as taking time to practice pranayama or breath control beside (or on) your horse.

Next let’s dive into my scope of knowledge for psychology.  I have been in therapy multiple times throughout my life and am currently working through the DBT handbook.  I took my first psychology class in high school and am now studying it in college.  I am about three quarters of the way through my bachelors degree in psychology.  With all the information above that means that I am not a psychologist, a counselor, or a clinical psychologist.  Instead I am a student, like you have been throughout your life, and that means that I am sharing my knowledge from one student to another.  Most of what I share with you will probably come from personal experiences as I journal a lot to uncover the reasons for the mental demons I have faced.  I want to share what I have uncovered about myself because we are all humans and that means we live different lives, but experience many of the same emotions.  Maybe something I say will sit with you and cause you to view your life in a different way.

And finally I want to share my scope within yoga.  This past summer I completed my 200 hour yoga instructor certification.  This is the starting point in the yoga world.  It means that I spent 200 hours learning about yoga and practicing the asana part of yoga.  I got my certification with a Yoga Alliance accredited yoga company; Core Power Yoga.  I am not a doctor, nor am I any other medical professional, but part of my 200 hours was learning about anatomy and physiology connected to the yoga asanas (postures).  This 200 hour certification is not the only one I plan on getting, but I need to let what I have learned seep into my brain and give myself time to start teaching and research the topics discussed in yoga teacher training that I wanted to learn more about.

So now that I’ve laid out the scope of my knowledge, I hope that you can choose to support my business with the understanding of what you are getting and what I have and want to offer to you.
